"Death is not the worst. There are things more horrible than death."

It's an unfortunate fact that remakes have been commissioned for decades. Back in 1979 Werner Herzog set out to remake the unauthorised 1922 Dracula adaptation Nosferatu, which was directed by F.W. Murnau. The original 1922 silent movie will forever remain an essentially flawless horror classic. When Herzog decided... read more

So far, it must be one of the best remakes I have ever seen. Of course, it might not have been as groundbreaking as the first version directed by F.W. Murnau but it was still a fascinating feature nonetheless. Indeed, I thought that the directing by Werner Herzorg was awesome and, in my opinion, it gave a totally different visual look on this story. On top of that, Klaus Kinski was a great substit... read more

Herzog make wonders with 'the trip of death', Kinski-vampyr goingo by dilligence, by river boat and by ship to the city of Delft (location).

Jonathan Harker is sent away to Count Dracula's castle to sell him a house in Varna, where Jonathan lives. But Count Dracula is a vampire, an undead ghoul living off of men's blood. Inspired by a photograph of Lucy Harker, Jonathan's wife, Dracula moves to Varna, bringing with him death and plague.

Movies the giraffe watched in 2020: April (33 movies items)

"First viewing - April 1st I tried to watch this when I lived in Austin during one of my Horrorfests, but the disc wouldn't play. Thankfully Prime has it as of this month, and I had two days left to watch it before my subscription ended. So I jumped on it right after dinner. On the one hand, this adaptation hits a lot of familiar beats, which I guess is to be expected. But then it takes a fascinating turn by switching out Lucy and Mina and then allowing Lucy to have agency instead of relying o"

Mustanaamio7's Movie Diary 2020 (127 movies items)

"28.3. 2020 Werner Herzog's masterful adaptation of a classic story joins all the scariest elements imaginable together: an undead and bloodthirsty creature, an unstoppable disease, and people without hope. Now during the time of the coronavirus pandepidemic this film is perhaps more relevant and scarier than ever. It is pure horror and it doesn't offer any comedic relief and I love it because of that. What makes Herzog's horror adaptation so special is also the fact that it was made during th"

Slant’s 100 Greatest Horror Films – 2018 Edition (100 movies items)

"Nosferatu the Vampyre‘s delineation of Dracula’s castle typifies Werner Herzog’s method throughout: an amalgam of dense poetic imagery and unadorned materiality. Caked with cobwebs and littered with the accumulated detritus of disuse, this cavernous space exudes what D.H. Lawrence called the spirit of place. Klaus Kinski’s Dracula is a fascinating creature, passionate and pestilential in equal measures, whether tossing aside the furniture to get at Jonathan Harker’s (Bruno Ganz) bleedi"
